When I join the army will they pay for braces?

yes, and no. Active Duty members, who are determined to have a medical need for them, can get them at no cost while in a non deployable status only.. that means if you are in a Training command for at least as long as the braces will need to be on. Several friends did it while at NPS and DLI while we lived at Monterey, as they are each long schools.





However, otherwise, they will not allow them to be done.





Family members must enroll in the dental insurance, and the cap is $1500 per minor child( adults are not covered)

Reply:No the Army will not pay for your braces..You can check into it but I have a few friends that have them now and they had to pay for them out of their own pockets...
Reply:Braces are covered if you're in one of the plans where you pay for your coverage.
Reply:I don't know if the Army's policy has changed.. but when I was at DLI, the Army, Air Force, Marines and Navy would all provide braces if you were non-deployable. If you're in a deployable unit, chances are, you won't be able to get braces since it would be a problem while you were out.
Reply:If the dental doctors determine that you need braces then the Army will pay for it.

Reply:No and depending on where you are stationed you will not be authorized to have them because you will not be in a situation to keep them maintained by the orthodonist. The military will only pay for dental care that is routine or critical not cosmetic. Basically if they work and are healthy that is good enough for them
Reply:Unless things have changed drastically since I retired the answer in general is no. However, I have heard it's possible to get them or at least have them maintained overseas...but not stateside.
Reply:I don't think they will pay unless you have a medical condition that requires it (like TMJ.)
